Final Assignment

This is the final assignment for the course  Tools for Post-Conflict Urban Recovery Ukraine. https://postconflictrecovery.org  organised by the TU Delft, UNUN, RMIT & Zuid University. Please keep in mind that in order to obtain a certificate, you need to have attended at least 6 of the 8 live sessions of this course. This final assignment makes it possible for you to obtain a certificate delivered by TU Delft. This certificate does not afford you ECTS, but mentions how many hours of study you have employed for this course. Please follow instructions carefully. If you have any questions, please write to postconflict-BK@tudelft.nl

The final assignment can be delivered in *two alternative ways*:

  1. SHORT MOVIE: You can deliver a 3-5-minute video made with your smart phone describing an issue of urban recovery or urban regeneration connected to a ‘build back better attitude’, explicitly addressing knowledge imparted in this course (housing policy, community-based recovery, circularity, sustainable housing design, spatial justice and participation, etc.). The video needs to make explicit mention of questions addressed in this course and must contain some form of narration of the problem, in English or Ukrainian. The general question addressed by this course is: What are sustainable, fair, and inclusive ways to build back cities and communities after shocks and conflicts (and specifically after the war in Ukraine)? Each session addresses different specific questions that can be addressed in this video.  The video does not have to be professionally edited.
  2. SHORT ESSAY: If you don’t feel comfortable delivering a video, the option is to deliver a 1000-word mini essay addressing the same issues as above, in English or Ukrainian. 1000 is the minimum number of words. 1500 is the maximum.

Assessment criteria

(i)  Does the video or text have a clear focus and tries to answer a clear (research) question pertinent to the course,  clearly stated in the video or text?

(ii)  Has the video or text used materials and ideas from the course? Are these materials and ideas referenced? Are they referenced correctly?

(iii)  Is the structure of the argumentation clear, going from the explanation of the problem to question, discussion of the theory and empirical ‘answer’ or illustration?

(An empirical answer is based on observation of a case familiar to the student. Many issues in urban development are “wicked problems” and do not admit a straight answer. Here we refer to a tentative answer you will give to your own question).

Deadline

The final assignment must be delivered until 1 SEPT 2023, 24:00 (CET). Assignments will only be reviewed after this deadline.

Grading

This assignment is not graded, but evaluated and the outcome is PASSED or INSUFFICIENT. Those evaluated with PASSED will receive a certificate. If your assignment is INSUFFICIENT, you have the possibility to submit again. We encourage you to look closely at the assessment criteria.

Granting of ECTS (The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System): This course DOES NOT grant ECTS (for which you would need to be an official student at TUDelft). Instead, it states on the certificate you have followed at least 20 hours of study.

Submission

IMPORTANT: Please only fill in the form when you are ready to submit your assignment.
